How to migrate Google Drive to OneDrive

Posted by Jayden @ Movebot on Jan 12, 2021 12:14:15 PM

If you are looking to migrate your business's Google Workspace or your individual Google Drive into Microsoft's OneDrive this can prove to be difficult and take a long time, especially when you have a large amount of data or users.

Google and OneDrive are fundamentally different in how they handle data, Google for one is a bit of a wild west where you can have duplicate files, it supports Google Doc format (which no one else does) and accepts all character types and formats. Contrary OneDrive does not allow duplicate files in the same folder, supports Microsoft's file formats and has character limitations. Due to just these reasons, moving between Google Drive and OneDrive can cause headaches and unwanted stress.

Box Migration Tool

Posted by Jayden @ Movebot on Jan 11, 2021 12:19:28 PM

Box is a leader when it comes to cloud content and governance. It integrates with the Google and Microsoft ecosystems, but also offers in depth reporting and compliance functionality. Transitioning from your current storage platform  can be daunting, then add additional complexity, especially when it comes to migrating hundreds to thousands of users and package that with content, permissions and versions. Migrating to Box doesn’t have to be scary, or over complicated — this is where migrations tools such as Movebot can assist and remove the complexity.

Movebot announces file server agent

Posted by Jayden @ Movebot on Jan 5, 2021 10:49:29 AM

After the year that has been, it's clear that the need for businesses to migrate to the cloud is paramount. This is not only to enable collaboration for those working from home, but also to ensure data security is governed correctly and maintained throughout the work day. It's time to remove the pesky VPNs that keep breaking and reboot that old file server into the cloud.

To help businesses migrate their users, content and data structure into the cloud, Movebot has released an easy to run agent that works across Windows machines. There is still no need to install any software, it runs as a simple executable that turns your file server into "just another cloud" for Movebot to migrate from.

File Server / File Share to Egnyte migrations

Posted by Jayden @ Movebot on Jan 4, 2021 1:50:43 PM

Egnyte is a single content platform that is a way to secure and manage all your content across distributed teams, devices and apps. Unlike other cloud storage providers, Egnyte has a centralized data structure, what you would expect from a traditional file server, but in the cloud. Compared to other cloud storage providers that offer an unstructured means (users “own” the data and then have to share it out) Egnyte is simple and great for organizations who like centralized data management. Migrating your data and content into Egnyte from your traditional on-premise file server or file share can prove difficult, cumbersome and just overall complex.

Box is a leader when it comes to cloud content and governance. It integrates with the Google and Microsoft ecosystems, but also offers in depth reporting and compliance functionality. Transitioning from local infrastructure such as a traditional file server or NAS can be daunting and add additional complexity, especially when it comes to migrating hundreds to thousands of users and the content that comes with them. Migrating to Box doesn't have to be scary, or over complicated - this is where tools such as Movebot can help and alleviate the complexity.

Moving between Dropbox and Google Drive

Posted by Jayden @ Movebot on Nov 24, 2020 11:05:46 AM

Moving between cloud storage can be frustrating, slow and a costly process — both time and financially. Most applications and providers obviously don’t like people leaving, and make it incredibly infuriating when you try and simply get out.

Replicate Amazon S3 to Wasabi

Posted by Jayden @ Movebot on Nov 10, 2020 9:39:47 AM

Replicating data between two platforms, especially when you have millions of files can prove difficult to find a robust and affordable solution. Even more, when replicating the likes of Veeam backups between Amazon S3 and Wasabi.

When it comes to replicating between the two, we recommend backing up to Wasabi and then replicate to Amazon S3. This is due to Wasabi not having egress fees and being more affordable off the line. Having no egress fees will help reduce cost phenomenally as if you were to back up and then replicate from Amazon S3, you would have egress fees and additional API charges that could ramp up quickly.

Google Drive to Box Migrations

Posted by Jayden @ Movebot on Oct 16, 2020 2:35:07 PM

Box is the secure collaboration tool that offers the best security and information governance across the storage providers. They tick all the boxes from strict data privacy, residency and industry compliance. Migrating your team from Google Drive into Box can be daunting as Google is quite the simple platform that doesn't offer too much when it comes to extensive features and security. However, migrating out of Google Drive has its challenges, this ranges from duplicate files in the same directory to different proprietary Google file document types that other platforms do not natively support.

Box to Amazon S3 transfers

Posted by Jayden @ Movebot on Oct 14, 2020 2:31:22 PM

Box is a great tool for secure collaboration, especially in the current working from home and remote office environment we have adopted. Although Box is cloud native and offers unlimited storage on their business plans, at times you may choose to backup to Amazon S3 or replicate data to S3 for other purposes, such as development. Unfortunately most tools out there only support object storage or enterprise collaboration suites, but not both. This is where Movebot can assist as it supports anything from S3 to Box and traditional file servers. This article will cover how to transfer your data between Box and Amazon S3 (and any other object storage).

G Suite to Dropbox for Business Migration

Posted by Jayden @ Movebot on Oct 6, 2020 11:19:51 AM

Dropbox and Google are both two of the most common cloud storage providers out there. Dropbox had it first, and Google has managed to build a solid reputation for Google Drive in small businesses and education. When it comes to cloud storage, Dropbox is a lot more feature rich and actually offers a sync agent. Google previously offered File Stream as an agent but has now turned its agent into a backup product.

Both Dropbox and Google have some similar characteristics when it comes to files and their storage, both have individual user drives, team (or shared) drives and a shared file system ("shared with me in Google Drive).
