Box is the secure collaboration tool that offers the best security and information governance across the storage providers. They tick all the boxes from strict data privacy, residency and industry compliance. Migrating your team from Google Drive into Box can be daunting as Google is quite the simple platform that doesn't offer too much when it comes to extensive features and security. However, migrating out of Google Drive has its challenges, this ranges from duplicate files in the same directory to different proprietary Google file document types that other platforms do not natively support. 

Dropbox and Google are both two of the most common cloud storage providers out there. Dropbox had it first, and Google has managed to build a solid reputation for Google Drive in small businesses and education. When it comes to cloud storage, Dropbox is a lot more feature rich and actually offers a sync agent. Google previously offered File Stream as an agent but has now turned its agent into a backup product.

Both Dropbox and Google have some similar characteristics when it comes to files and their storage, both have individual user drives, team (or shared) drives and a shared file system ("shared with me in Google Drive).

Moving your individual storage from one provider to another is one challenge, but how about moving your entire team, or better yet — your organization? Often you have to outsource this work or find hacky solutions to help make the move bearable. Or, download all the files and then re-upload (sync) the files to your new provider. This last option is great if you have lots of time and enough space to handle the data.

One thing most can relate to, is going to a presentation and someone asks you to upload your Microsoft PowerPoint file to Google Drive to use Google Slides. Just as you start your presentation you notice that you formatting is gone and you are now left with some fancy calligraphy pirate font that no one can understand… great!
